Decking Materials

We have two types of decking materials available for your new deck:

• Merbau decking: This is a fabulous decking timber, as once this rich hardwood ages, it settles down into a beautiful dark brown, earthy colour which is why is the most common timber decking in Gold Coast. It’s easy to work with, highly durable and termite resistant; with regular maintenance, Merbau decking will easily last for a generation or more.
• Modwood decking: This is a high tech composite decking, perfect for our harsh Australian sun and requires virtually no maintenance. The natural timber finish and clean straight lines suit most decking styles – it is very difficult to tell the difference between Modwood and real timber decking. Modwood decking won’t rot or warp, is termite resistant and is made from recycled timbers and plastics, right here in Australia.

Framing Materials

Some clients prefer treated pine for their deck frame, others prefer steel. The difference is mainly in cost, with steel being slightly more expensive than pine on a cost per metre basis. Another consideration is if you are building a two storey deck and you need a frame that spans a long distance (to avoid too many vertical posts), then steel is the better option. Other than that, the choice between pine and steel is mainly based personal taste.

• CCA treated pine frame: Treated pine has been used for decades as the material of choice for structural framing and decking in Gold Coast. It is suitable for heavy load bearing jobs like decks, but is also lightweight, long lasting and very cost effective.
• Stratco subfloor: This is a steel floor framing, designed by Stratco that is very strong, durable and economical. It is suitable for all timber and composite decks, is termite resistant and will last a lifetime.
